Sea-Changers receives big funding boost through partnership with the Liontrust Foundation

Updated: 2 days ago

We are very proud to announce that we have been selected as one of three initial charities who will partner with the newly launched Liontrust Foundation. The Foundation’s support will enable us to focus on transformational growth, helping us to scale up and better meet the needs of the grassroots organisations we support, via our marine conservation grant programmes.

The Liontrust Foundation was launched by Liontrust Asset Management Plc and has two objectives. One is to promote Social Mobility and Entrepreneurship and the other is to promote Conservation and Nature Recovery, which is where Sea-Changers fits in. The Foundation’s Board of Trustees initially selected three charities (Social Ark, Growing Well and Sea-Changers) with which to partner across these two objectives. The Liontrust Foundation were looking looked to partner with organisations that would help increase the recovery and conservation of nature whilst seeking to increase inclusion in conservation and investing in entrepreneurship as a means of social change.

Simon Hildrey, Chair of the Liontrust Foundation, said: “The Liontrust Foundation was set up with the intention of empowering social mobility and preserving and recovering nature in ways that are not available through investments in public markets. Since launch, the Foundation has been seeking partnerships that many others might overlook and through which it is possible to maximise impact. We have been really impressed by the many charities we have met over the past few months as we undertook a rigorous selection process. Social Ark, Growing Well and Sea-Changers are terrific organisations that have a transformative effect on the communities they serve. The Liontrust Foundation looks forward to partnering with them to help strengthen their impact.”

Sea-Changers’ ambition over the coming twelve months is to undertake a programme of work that will significantly grow the number and scale of our fundraising business partnerships. This, in turn, will significantly increase funding for our marine conservation grant programmes. We know that Sea-Changers often provides essential funding to enable marine conservation to take place in some of the most excluded and disadvantaged communities in the country. Increasingly there is more demand for our grants than we can satisfy, so there is an urgent need for growth.

Sea-Changers Co-Founder, Rachel Lopata said: “We are delighted to have been chosen as one of the Liontrust Foundation’s first three partner charities and we are excited, with their support, to grow our partnership income. This could not have come at a better time, given that we are receiving an unprecedented number of grant applications that we simply cannot keep up with. This award will also enable us to build the sustainability of our charity and work for the long term.”

Sea-Changers will be bringing in the support of Rachael Ogden Wilson, who will work alongside our two Co-Founders to focus on building impactful and long-term business partnerships. Any companies interested exploring a partnership should contact rachael.ogdenwilson@sea-changers.org.uk.
